Hot Dog Mike creates one of four $1501.00 Hot Dogs sold from his cart May 11, 2012 in Little Rock Arkansas

Today was incredible. Here’s the story….

After being told a Hot Dog was sold in Canada for $100. I posted on twitter that I’d thought it would be fun to bring the Most Expensive Hot Dog to Little Rock. My fans spoke and a bidding war ensued amongst them on twitter. I hadn’t even said what was on it or when it would be sold. That’s how awesome my fans are. They quickly drove it up to $1500. I added the $1 to represent Little Rock’s area code 501. The $1(501) hot dog was born.

What would go on it? It would have been really cool to just do mustard or something like that. I have no doubt my eager fans would have accepted that but I had to have more fun with it than that. After some thought and taste tests in “the lab”  I decided to place a gourmet 1/4  lb all beef frank in a bakery fresh potato bun and top it with a whole lobster tail, saffron aioli and some edible gold dust (just because).

I had to figure out what to do with it. I wouldn’t feel comfortable just keeping the money. After talking with my first interested buyer I vowed to donate the money to help The One Inc. a local cause with an amazing homeless outreach that is near and dear to my heart. I ‘d give $1500.00 and keep $1.00 for myself.

From there the event unfolded. I offered six to be sold on May 11, 2012 and hit the ground running to make it happen. In the end I’m more than grateful and quite satisfied that we sold four. I have been recognized by the world record academy. I had a blast and hope you did to. I’m glad I could help some folks that need it.

Thank You to my helpers, pitch-eaters, all of my fans, friends and family who made it out. It was awesome looking out and seeing you all. I almost got choked up a few times. Thanks to practically every single camera in Arkansas for making me feel like a rock star today. Thank you to the City of Little Rock and The River Market for hosting. Almost two years ago, when I bought this cart I knew I was ready to have some fun. I never expected any of this. I’ll say it over and over again, today was incredible. I Love you guys.
